Fighting for a Living Wage
American working families deserve a raise. For decades, millions of America’s working class have been punished by sky-rocketing costs of living. Without the protection of wage increases that match inflation, these citizens rarely experience their American dream, and they often struggle to afford basic necessities.
The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, and the Florida minimum wage: $8.56 an hour. In an MIT study of Palm Beach County’s typical expenses and annual salaries, researchers determined that the minimum wage is not a living wage for a single person even without children. The researchers found that if you have two children in Palm Beach County, you must earn over $10.25 to stay above the poverty line.
